During the Qing Dynasty, Xinxing was known as "Dagangpu," or "unused land [near] the big port." The "big port" in question was on the Love River. 清朝時期新興叫 "大港埔" 。 那個時代的 "大港" 在愛河上 。
According to the last census, 49,575 people live in Xinxing. 上次的人口統計顯示新興的人口是49,575人 。
There are three famous (?) things in Xinxing, these being The Dome of Light, the Liouhe Night Market and the Nanhua Shopping District. These three things are within walking distance of each other. 新興有三個景點 。 這三個景點是光之穹頂 、 六合夜市跟南華觀光商圈 。 這三個景點都離捷運站很近 。
Pictured above is the Dome of Light, which is to be found within the Formosa Boulevard MRT Station. 上面照片中的光之穹頂在美麗島站裡面 。
It's a big station and somewhat easy to get lost in. Part of the reason for this is that the Formosa Boulevard station is where the red and orange MRT lines intersect. It's a major transit point in the city. 這個捷運站很大 ， 很容易在裡面迷路 。 捷運站那麼大的原因之一是紅線跟橘線在美麗島交會 , 它是高雄市的重要轉運站 。
Northwest of Formosa Boulevard Station you'll find the Liouhe Night Market. This is one of Kaohsiung's biggest night markets. 美麗島站西北部有六合夜市 ， 它是高雄最大夜市的其中一個 。
Compared to Rueifeng Night Market in Zuoying further north, Liouhe is a lot less claustrophobic, and (in my opinion) offers a better selection of food. I like Rueifeng, but I prefer Liouhe. 它跟北邊左營區的瑞豐夜市比 ， 我覺得六合的空間比較大 ， 料理選擇比較多 。 我也喜歡瑞豐 ， 可是我覺得六合更好 。
This was the crowd on a Saturday, around 8 p.m. I really wanted to eat something here, but I was too full from a dinner I'd eaten somewhere else. 這些照片是在周六晚上八點左右拍的 。 我很想在那裏吃點東西 ， 可是我已經在其他地方吃得很飽了 ， 到夜市的時候一點都不餓 。
There are many games for kids. In my own experience taking small children to night markets is always a 50/50 proposition. Sometimes they have the time of their lives, other times the crowds, lights and noise are too much for them. 這裡有很多遊戲給小朋友玩 。 以我的經驗來說 ， 有時候帶孩子逛夜市很好玩 ；有時候因為人群、燈光或聲音太大讓孩子受不了而不好玩 ，機會各半。
I was here with my daughter, who's now in her early 20s. Seeing these parents with their children brought to mind times I'd taken her to night markets when she was a kid. 我跟二十幾歲的大女兒來這裡。 看到其他爸媽帶孩子來玩讓我想到我女兒還小的時候 。
I've played this Mahjong game a couple times. It's OK, but I like the ring toss a lot more. 這個麻將遊戲我玩過兩次 ，我覺得還好 , 我覺得丟圈圈的遊戲更好玩。
Seafood, seafood and more seafood. Oh, and beer too. Revisiting Liouhe made me want to come back another time for dinner. It'd be a fun place to eat. 海鮮跟啤酒 ! 我改天要去六合吃晚餐 ， 在這裡吃晚餐一定很好玩 。

These local pinball games seems to be experiencing a resurgence. I've seen a lot of newer stores carrying them. For adults there are the old memories, while for kids there's a chance to create new ones. 好像最近彈珠檯比較受歡迎 ， 有很多新的彈珠店 。 成人有以前打彈珠的回憶 ，現在的小朋友長大以後也會有打彈珠的回憶。
The Nanhua Shopping District is nearby. For Western tourists there's not much to see here. 附近有南華觀光商圈 。 這裡的商品主要應該不是給西方觀光客吧 !
I suppose if you wanted to spice up your marriage you could buy an outfit or two here? Otherwise a lot of the clothes look like they're destined for local KTVs. 如果想加強夫妻間的親密關係，可以在這裡買一兩件衣服 ， 要不然這種衣服好像是賣給KTV小姐穿的 。
On the way to the Nanhua Shopping District I passed by this Catholic church. It was filled to capacity, with an enthusiastic service taking place within. 我走往南華商圈的時候經過這個天主教堂 ， 裡面坐滿了人，很熱鬧 。
