Xiaogang has a long history as a port. It was first used as such by the Dutch East India Company before Koxinga's arrival on the island. 小港有悠久的海運歷史 , 荷蘭東印度公司在鄭成功來之前就讓它成為重要的港口。
According the last census, 154,693 people live in Xiaogang. 上次的人口統計記載小港的人口是154,693人 。
We drove into Xiaogang from Linyuan, further south. This drive was NOT pleasant. Highway 17 is a lot of trucks, red lights and inattentive motorists. 我們從南部的林園開車到小港 , 台17線上的路況不好 ,因為有許多 的大卡車 、 紅綠燈 和不專心的駕駛人。
I will say, however, that once you leave Highway 17 the area around the Hongmao Port Culture Park is very empty and very quiet. It's a confusing drive, but at least trucks aren't a problem. 還好 ! 駛離台17線以後,紅毛港文化園區附近很空曠又安靜 。 在這個地區很容易迷路 ,但好處是沒有大卡車。
Beyond that I have nothing to say about Hongmao Port Culture Park. Why? Because it was closed when we got there. I'll try again another time. 我對紅毛港文化園區沒有任何可以分享的資訊 。 為什麼呢 ? 因為我到那裏時它沒有開 , 改天再找時間去 ...
The Hongmao Port Culture Park is at the southern end of Kaohsiung Port, hidden behind cranes and shipping containers. 紅毛港文化園區位於高雄港的南端 , 是船舶起重機和海運貨櫃最多的地方 。
Fengbitou Port is at the southeast corner of the district. Like the Hongmao Port Culture Park it's super quiet. There are no seafood restaurants here. 鳳鼻頭漁港在小港區的東南部 , 這裡跟紅毛港文化園區一樣安靜 , 鳳鼻頭漁港裡沒有海鮮餐廳 。
Crab pots? I can only assume so. There was nobody around to ask. 這些是抓螃蟹用的嗎 ? 我猜是 , 但身邊沒有其他人可以問 。
We walked from the coast guard station to the other end of the port. I saw maybe five other people, all of them busy fishing. 我們從海巡署檢查站走到漁港另外一邊 , 我們在這裡看到五個人 , 他們都忙著釣魚 。
As you can tell from the submerged tetrapods this area is fairly neglected. I saw a lot of construction at Zhongyun Port in Linyuan to the south, but very little sign of such activity here. 從水下的消波塊看出來 ,這漁港的使用率不高。 林邊的中芸漁港在整修 , 鳳鼻頭沒有整修的跡象。
Maybe the Kaohsiung City Government will get around to it in its own good time. I could understand them not being that concerned about this port. It's very isolated. 可能高雄市政府已經有計畫整修這個漁港 ,我可以理解政府的動作不快的原因,它真的很偏遠。
And this place? This is the Fengshan Reservoir, tucked away on a ridge between several industrial areas. There's a trail around most of it, and another entrance in Daliao on the other side. It's strange to see this tranquil pool of water in the middle of so much industry. 這個地方呢 ? 這是鳳山水庫 。 這個水庫在鳳山丘陵上 , 也在幾個工業區的中間 。 水庫有外環步道 , 還有其他入口在另外一邊的大寮 。 在大工廠區看到這麼藍的水池很奇怪 。
The Kaohsiung International Airport is also in Xiaogang. It has its own MRT stop. It's much smaller than the airport in Taoyuan. 高雄國際機場也在小港 , 機場也有捷運站 , 高雄機場比桃園機場小很多 。
This is the Arrivals area. This place was a shadow of its present self during COVID. It's nice to see it so alive again. 這是旅客入境區 。 疫情的時候這座機場變成空城, 現在看到那麼多人在這裡讓我很感動 。
Most international travelers pass through Taoyuan International Airport, so if you're hearing of this airport for the first time it's not surprising. I've driven into it a couple times but I've never actually used it. 大部分的國際旅客會利用桃園國際機場轉機, 很多人沒注意到高雄的機場 。 我開車進入接送區二次,但還沒有在這裡登機過。
At the time of writing there are flights arriving in Kaohsiung International Airport from China, Malaysia and South Korea, and flights departing for China, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan and Malaysia. I've always thought of this airport as "the businessman's airport," shuttling businessmen from Taiwan to factories in other parts of East and Southeast Asia. 我寫這片文章的時候,高雄國際機場正忙著迎接從中國 、 馬來西亞跟南韓來的旅客, 也有班機飛往中國、 越南 、 新加坡 、 日本跟馬來西亞 。 我一直以為高雄機場是給商人專用的 , 把商務人士從台灣送往東南亞的工廠。
This is the pick up area in front of the Arrivals area. In the summer it's a hot place to wait. 入境區外面的汽車接送區 。 這裡夏天的時候很熱 。
View of the airport from the front. There's some "airport coffee" place around here that's locally famous. Oh well, another day... 機場的外貌 , 附近有當地知名的 "機場咖啡"。 我還沒有去過 。
Further south you'll find central Xiaogang at the end of the MRT Red Line. As you emerge from the station you'll pass by Highway 17 as it approaches downtown Kaohsiung. 小港市區也是高雄捷運紅線的終點站 。 從捷運站出來的時候會經過往高雄市區的台17線 。
I'm no expert, and I'm certainly not a local, but I do know this area pretty well. My younger daughter is a student at the Kaohsiung Hospitality University in Xiaogang, and I drove through this part of Kaohsiung a lot during her first three years there. 我不是當地人,可是我對小港的認識頗深 。 我小女兒在小港的高雄餐旅大學念書,所以前三年我常開車到小港。
Pro Tip: if you're coming from Pingtung, get off the 88 Expressway in Daliao and drive the rest of the way to Xiaogang on local roads. It's MUCH less stressful than using the Fengshan exit. 如果從屏東開車走88快速道路往小港 , 我建議你在大寮下交流道比較好 , 接著走省、鄉道到小港,這比在鳳山出口下去好走許多。
Same area, but a little further north. Driving through Xiaogang can be hectic, but it can also be interesting. 同一個地方 , 往北邊一點點 。 雖然在小港開車很累 , 可是這個地區很特別 。
