2c. A man on a scooter armed with a machete robbed a driver passing through Chenggong, and was later disarmed by a local government official. 1. Are they still doing the bike race up the east coast between Jialulan and Chenggong? I've done that a few times. If they are I highly recommend it.
2. Another article on another site states that this driver was in his 70s, not his 80s.
3. There is a real need for this type of meeting in that area. Many businesses in Chenggong and other areas north of Dulan are run sporadically, and with little planning. They're often overlooked by tourists for this reason.
4. Given the prevalence of landslides in that area I'm not sure if this is a good use of public funds.
5. I'd probably write his name as "Lai Ching-de" or even "Lai Qing-de," but whatever. The English spellings of Presidents' names rarely make sense.
6. Sounds like some serious drama. I doubt this is the last we'll hear of this incident.
7. Children's Day is around the corner. Government offices often do this kind of thing leading up to the holiday.
8. I seem to remember a similar women's association-sponsored event taking place in Guanshan or Chrshang recently. Seems to be a trend.
9. Here's the thing though: it does kind of mean something. Residents of Luanshan, across the valley from Yanping, previously objected to the statue having an arrow because this arrow would have pointed in their direction. They considered it somewhat offensive.
