1. Beinan Township 卑南鄉

1a. A cement mixer famous (?) for flipping over did so again in Hualien.  A mechanical problem?  Or someone driving it too fast around corners?  Hopefully the incident is being investigated in depth before this cement mixer (or its driver(s)) actually kills someone. 10天內在台東連翻兩次 !  "最衰預拌車" 轉手花蓮半路又翻了

2a. A man was stabbed five times after a drunken argument with four others.  He was rushed to the hospital and the suspects were apprehended soon after the incident. 嗆聲惹禍！台東男凌晨家門口慘遭4人狂砍 全身5處刀傷送醫搶救

2b. The Taitung County Government recently launched a program through which some travelers can be reimbursed for longer stays in the area.  Those requesting such subsidies must do so online. 2026最新旅遊補助快申請 !  1縣市發每人2500元

2c. The recent addition of pedestrian walkways in some parts of the city has resulted in still fewer parking spots available to local residents and tourists.  Many are blaming the local government for failing to consult residents on how and where the pedestrian walkways should be placed. 標線人行道壓縮停車空間  惹議

Representatives from the County Government recently visited Jinfeng to discuss subsidies for eco-friendly farming in the area.  Soil erosion and flooding are serious problems in Jinfeng, and the government is pushing more sustainable farming practices such as soil conservation and the planting of tree breaks. 金峰推坡地水保設施補助  降低豪雨沖刷風險



5a. The Taitung County Department of Hygiene (Public Health) has plans to build a long-term health care facility in Dawu for the use of elderly residents there.  They recently convened a public meeting to explain the building's design and its intended uses. 大武鄉擬建住宿式長照  說明會聽取居民意見

5b. A wind power company wants to install 33 wind turbines along the coast in Daren, Dawu and Taimali.  Would this be a good thing or a bad thing for residents of these three townships?  Some in Dawu voice environmental concerns and worries about noise from wind turbines, while others want the subsidies that hosting wind turbines will bring.  Many of these same people also say that preserving Dawu's coastline is pointless given the fact that most tourists simply pass through the area without stopping. 風電為何抗爭多 ?  2大案例一次看

8a. Wang Chun-mei will run for the office of County Councilmember representing Lanyu. 花東特派員張柏東 / 台東縣報導

8b. The Taitung County Government increased the ferry subsidy for Lanyu residents from 450 NT to 600 NT.  There are presently two application systems in place for this subsidy, and some are complaining that the competing systems are a source of confusion. 蘭嶼船票補助  縣府調升至600元

Kaohsiung in the News 高雄的新聞 (West 西) 9


There are 38 districts in Kaohsiung City.  The districts discussed here are all west of the Formosa Freeway (#3).  They're much more urban than districts east of the Formosa Freeway, have a much higher population density, and are generally less scenic. 高雄市分為38個行政區 。  這裡文章討論的行政區都位在福爾摩沙高速公路以西 ，  這些行政區和高速公路以東的行政區比較起來: 較熱鬧 、人口密度較高 、風景比較差。



1a. Six villages in Alian went without water for four hours.  The reason?  The water utility was testing the water. 快儲水 !  全台7縣市將停水 "最長23小時"  影響區域 , 時間一次看

24a. This "article" (more of a YouTube video really), advertises another restaurant in Xinxing.  Both this restaurant (which serves pork cutlet) and the restaurant in Yancheng (which serves noodles) are about 60 years old. 必比登推薦60年排骨飯老店 ....



25a. The driver of a large truck flipped his vehicle over on a bridge.  The vehicle then caught fire and the driver died at the scene. 高雄前鎮新生路高架橋貨車翻覆起火  疑自撞護欄司機受困車中死亡 (9)

28a. Cool!  This article discusses a tunnel in the Fengshan Hills built by the Japanese Imperial Forces.  It wasn't used for much, but it'd be a fun thing to visit nonetheless. 日軍戰備隧道藏密境  高雄林園水龍洞綿延梯田曝光

1. Honestly, I've worked at several schools where new athletic fields were built.  All those people wearing gloves is a bit much!

2. This kind of thing is no joke.  I can remember a fire in Xiaogang sending the local AQI past 200.

3. Why Ciaotou?  Because it's flat, relatively undeveloped, and cheaper to build there.  The government and construction companies have been trying to get people to move there, with mixed results, for years.  If the real estate bubble really is a bubble, and if it pops one day, Ciaotou is likely to become Taiwan's first ghost city.  I'm not wishing that on anyone (particularly not my in-laws) but the market there has been slowing and there are a lot of new, empty apartments in the area.

4. Expect a horrendous drive from any other part of Kaohsiung.  It's not an easy park to get to, and traffic often backs up between the Green Park and Chongqing Lake.

5. There have been many bus-related traffic incidents in the news lately.  This might be part of the reason for their trip.

6. Why not a beach in Pingtung County?  Because Qijin is actually easier to get to from Pingtung City.  I suspect most people in Pingtung City would also think Qijin was more fun.

7. It's the intersection/exit near the Lingya Sports Park, just off the freeway.  Super easy place to do something wrong!

8. It's between the Shoushan Park LRT stop and the Kaohsiung City History Museum.  I'm guessing a 10-15 minute walk.  Most of Kaohsiung's older, more "local" restaurants are tucked away in that area.

9. I know that bridge.  Wound up driving over it once by mistake.  Very dangerous!

10. It's possible.  This road is in the middle of an industrial area, and fluid could have leaked from one of the trucks that pass continually through the Xiaogang.

Tainan in the News 台南的新聞 (South 南) 9


There are 37 Districts in Tainan City.  These districts are divided into North Tainan and South Tainan, or those "north of the [Dzengwen] river" and those "south of the [Dzengwen] river."  The districts of North Tainan are further grouped into the Xinying Area, the Beimen Area and the Dzengwen Area.  The districts of South Tainan are further grouped into the Fucheng Area, the Xinfeng Area and the Xinhua Area. 台南市分為37個區 ， 這37個地區分成曾文溪北部的北台南跟曾文溪南部的南台南 。 北台南又分為新營地區 、北門地區跟曾文地區 ； 南台南又分為府城地區 、 新豐地區跟新化地區 。


1. 安南區 Annan District

3. 安平區 Anping District

3a. There will be a religious activity honoring Matsu at the Queen of Heaven Temple on April 22. 市定民俗活動  安平開台天后宮 "上香迎媽祖"  將在4/22登場


4. 南區 South District

4a. Two people running for positions in the Tainan City Government posed as video game characters Mario and Luigi for a promotional billboard.  Many praised this billboard as "innovative," while others worried about copyright infringement and creating the appearance that Nintendo was somehow endorsing the two candidates. 台南議員周麗津看板 "模仿瑪利歐"  疑侵權不排除撤除

4b. A woman under the influence of drugs struck several vehicles with her car, only coming to a stop after driving into a nearby median.  Three scooter riders were sent to the hospital, but no one was seriously injured. 毒駕女下班時間直直衝連撞4車  正面對決分隔島才停下


5. 北區 North District

5a. Two teenagers riding an electric scooter collided with a car in North District.  The teenager riding on the back of the electric scooter suffered a brain hemorrhage, and is in very serious condition. 台南市北區少年違規載人車禍  少女腦出血重傷


6. 安定區 Anding District

6a. Two vehicles collided on the #8 Expressway.  One of the drivers was found unresponsive and sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The other driver fled the scene and an investigation is underway. 台南清晨重大車禍  駕駛OHCA送醫另一人失聯 (1)

6b. There was another accident, this one involving five vehicles, on the same expressway.  One person was sent to the hospital afterward. 國道嚴重事故 !  5車 "撞成一團"  零件碎滿地 , 1人送醫


7. 東區 East District

7a. A new arts hall will open on the 18th of this month.  This venue includes an outdoor stage.  One or two events will be launched there every weekend. 明華園台南打造戲巢藝術館  訂4/18開幕


8. 善化區 Shanhua District

8a. A driver collided with a row of scooters parked next to a road.  No one was injured. 妳累了嗎 ?  台南賓士女恍神暴衝  路旁15部機車倒一排


9. 新市區 Xinshr District

Despite the cost of a house rising in some areas, the overall housing market in Tainan slowed recently.  A recent reduction in transaction volume shows that residential properties in areas such as Xinshr were overvalued, even if the overall market remains stable. 台南房市兩樣情 !  "1行政區" 交易量暴增751%  新市慘跌6成


10. 永康區 Yongkang District

11. 仁德區 Rende District

13. 關廟區 Guanmiao District

A hundred tables are up for grabs at the 2026 Tainan Master Chef event, held in Guanmiao this year.  Tables at the banquet-style event are highly sought after.  The menu will incorporate ingredients from the mountains, the sea, the plains and the hills.  Tables are going for 10,000 apiece. 台南四季辦桌回歸  5/2關廟首場席開百桌


14. 新化區 Xinhua District

14a. It's pineapple and bamboo shoot season in Xinhua, Guanmiao and Longqi.  Farmers in those districts will be taking part in several markets and promotional events to be held in that area.  The first of these events will take place at Shanxi Temple in Guanmiao on April 25th. 台南鳳梨好筍季  25日關廟打頭陣


15. 龍崎區 Longqi District

16. 左鎮區 Zuojhen District

The local development association in Gongguan Village recently transformed a public area into a "Bamboo Weaving Cultural Station," and an exhibition was held at this venue to showcase items made from bamboo.  The area has a long history of both growing bamboo and creating agricultural products from this crop. 左鎮堊地生活文化驛站  竹編展


17. 山上區 Shanshang District

18. 玉井區 Yujing District

18a. This article introduces a new "secret spot" in Yujing where you can see pink shower tree blossoms. 台南玉井花旗木秘境曝光 !  玥園恩親步道粉色花海浪漫綻放中

18b. A lot of land was recently auctioned off in Yujing.  Nearly $10 million NT in property changed hands at the event. 南署法拍熱 !  入帳近千萬  玉井3筆土地658萬拍出


19. 楠西區 Nanxi District

19a. The "Firefly Flower Hot Spring Festival" began in the Gueidan Hot Spring Area last week.  The event included performances, a magic show and lower prices on tickets to the local hot springs. 春遊台南楠西  2026螢光花泉季周末登場


20. 南化區 Nanhua District

20a. Here's a gruesome one.  A 62 year old man drove over his wife after an argument.  The collision caused her internal organs to rupture and she died at the scene.  Respect to first responders - that couldn't have been an easy thing to deal with. 台南殺妻命案 ... 丈夫開車加速輾過妻子內臟破裂死亡  檢聲押獲准

2. They have a valid point.  There are some truly baffling crosswalks and pedestrian walkways in Tainan, and many of these crosswalks and walkways seem to make walking around Tainan MORE dangerous, not less so.
