In 1915 the "Tapani Incident," also called the "Tapani Uprising" occurred in Yujing. This was an act (or series of acts) of armed resistance against Japanese authorities. In 2014 the bones of 3000 people were discovered in nearby Xinhua District, and it's thought that these 3000 people were the victims of Japanese reprisals following the Tapani Incident. 西元1915年的時候，玉井發生了西來庵事件 。 西來庵事件是臺灣人武力抗日的活動 ， 2014年的時候在新化區挖出來3000多人的骸骨 ， 這些人大概是在西來庵事件的時候被殺的。
According to the last census, 12,746 people live in Yujing. 上次的人口統計顯示玉井的人口有12,746人 。
And at the northern end of the district, a stone's throw away from Nanxi, is the Taiwan Golden Buckwheat Exploration Hall. I thought the food here was good, but their beer is more of an acquired taste. 在玉井的北部 、 很靠近楠西 ， 這裡有一間黃金蕎麥探索館。 我覺得餐廳的料理很好吃， 可是他們用蕎麥釀的啤酒有點怪怪的 。
This funny little lake/pond is down the road from Tsenglin Elementary School, near the southern end of the district. 這個可愛的農塘在層林國小附近 ， 靠近玉井的南部 。
It looks like it must have been a tourist site at one time. Now it's a place you'll want to avoid during heavy rains. 這個農塘很久以前應該是當地景點吧 ? 但是現在應該避免下雨天去。
I walked through the village near there for a bit. The stares I received were intense. I assume they don't get a lot of visitors around here. 我在村子裡走了一小段路 ， 村民們看著我的眼神告訴我平常不會有外村人來這裡。
Near the center of the district you'll find the Jiaobanian Memorial Park, which commemorates the Tapani Incident. "Jiaobanian" is another name for the Tapani Uprising. 在玉井的中部有噍吧哖紀念公園 。 "噍吧哖"是西來庵事件的另一名稱 。
The view of the river from here isn't bad. 公園內溪邊的風景不錯 。
In the same park there's a big mango which serves as the district's centerpiece. This mango is the most visible thing in Yujing. 公園裡也有大芒果當玉井中部的地標 ，是玉井最明顯的東西 。
In the center of town you'll find the Zhanshan Story Hall, which also serves as a restaurant and gift shop. 區中心的淺山故事館有餐廳和禮品店 。
The items in the gift shop are organized by their village of origin. I've seen a similar setup in Longqi, not far away. 禮品店的東西都以村來劃分陳列 ， 我也在龍崎看過類似的安排。
To the rear of the Story Hall is this museum, which introduces both Yujing's history with regard to sugar production (a history it shares with nearby Zuozhen) and the Tarapi Incident which took place here. 這個玉井史料館在故事館後方 ， 裡面介紹了西來庵事件跟當地糖業的歷史 ， 說明糖業以前在玉井和左鎮的重要性。
Next to the museum is a small park. It was too hot to even consider sitting in this park when I visited, but it might be a nice place to laze around in the winter. 歷史館旁邊是小公園 。 當天天氣太熱 ，我不想留在這裡太久， 但冬天來這裡休息走走應該不錯 。
Camping area? I'm not sure. 是露營區嗎 ? 我不是很確定 。

NOTE: I skipped over a few places in my journey through Yujing. There's a big fruit market in the center of town which is very important to the local economy, but it doesn't have air conditioning and I really wasn't feeling that on a hot, hot day. There are also a couple of Instagram-worthy churches, but I've seen a lot of churches lately so I decided to give them a miss.
